A Gentleman’s Request

A GENTLEMAN’S REQUEST

From the deepest surfaces of my gratitude,

I beg you, oh generous Paul Bearers,

to please lower Mommie Dearest into the ground.

I beg of you, oh charitable Paul Bearers,

to put an end to my feverish torment.

Never mind being courteous of her feelings—

need I remind you that she’s dead?

And last time I checked, the dead can’t feel anything!

I beg of you, oh unsparing Paul Bearers,

to show the universal sign of disrespect.

From the deepest surfaces of my gratitude,

I beg you, oh bountiful Paul Bearers,

to aid me as I spit on her sullied memory.

I beg of you, oh genial Paul Bearers,

to put a screeching halt to my agony.

Never mind being generous to her memory.

Need I remind you that she’s dead?

And last time I checked, the dead can’t feel anything!

I beg of you, oh splendid Paul Bearers,

to show the universal sign of disrespect.

An eye for an eye, indeed!

Shattered Glass Bottle

SHATTERED GLASS BOTTLE

Glass is shattering at this present moment.

Shush! Can you hear it?

It’s the spirit of a fallen man,

A cry for aid.

But no one hears the broken shards.

No one hears its impact against the mighty wall.

No one hears its tiny remains make sympathetic keyboard notes.

Formally a stout Vodka bottle

But now a million reflections of a lost man.

Its contents comfort him,

A deceiving console.

So, can you hear it?

The spirit of a fallen man?

It cries out in a melancholy plea.

Shush! Listen and you might faintly hear

The muted screams.

Never Fade Away

NEVER FADE AWAY

Never fade into the abyss.

Never drift in the wind like a fallen leaf.

Always rise above avalanches of distraction.

Always drift with direction.

Never fade like the last rays of daylight.

Never drift on a broken sailboat in shallow waters.

Always shine brightly in the imminence of darkness.

Always captain your ship during treacherous storm fronts.

Never fade like the most impossible of ambitions.

Never drift on your disbelief.

Always cling to your hopes and dreams.

Always savor each victory like fine wine.

Never fade and never waver.

Never drift and never fold.

Always shine and always stand sturdy.

Always have purpose and always win.

Silent Mirror

SILENT MIRROR

Why are you always so judgmental?

Always smiling your little sunshine grin?

Why can’t you just mind your own damn business?

Mirror, mirror on the wall,

Why do you reveal the worst images

Of them all?

In the graceful peaks of dawn,

You disclose a private side of me—

A side that no one should know

Sits at the pit of my existence.

Why do you judge me so harshly, Mirror?

Someone is going to railroad you soon.

When you least expect it, someone will

Strike you and shatter you into a

Thousand prickly pieces of pathetic sadness.

Your judgmental brow is always arched!

Why, Mirror?

Oh, why?

You remain silent, Mirror.

Tell me why!

Won’t you tell me?

Won’t you tell me why you judge me?
